true life, happened to me awhile back.

I don't mail that many letters a month.

One month I found out through my health aid, that the post office raised the stamp to 34 cents!

Stamps are 39 cents on the superhero stamps that I just bought and I fully agree with you I think it sux big time, my husband is in Iraq and I mail him ATLEAST once a day so it's costing us more and more everytime he deploys :(

The price (in the US) has been 39 cents since January. It is scheduled to go up to 42 cents next May. When these changes are made, there are stories in every newspaper and on every US news website. Most TV stations carry the story. You have to be kind of oblivious to miss it.

Starting with the next rate increase, there will be a new twist - stamps called "forever stamps" will be sold for 42 cents that will be good for any future first-class rate! When the rate goes up, it will cost more to buy a new "forever stamp," but the old ones will still be good for whatever the new rate is.

BTW, (nearly) any US stamp issued since 1861 is still valid for postage at the value printed on the stamp. I routinely use three 13 cent stamps to mail my letters. (I bought them from a stamp dealer for 10% below face value!)

I did that once. I really needed a bill to go out that day and I didn't have time to run out and get more stamps. I carefully removed an uninked stamp from another piece of mail and used elmers glue to stick it on the new envelope.

No, I never do. But my boss is an idiot.. The last time the price of stamps went up, he asked someone to go to the p.o. the day before the increase went into effect -- to get him some stamps before the price went up.

Um...think about it. They are raising the price because they need more money to keep the business going. Sending notices to every single postage location in the nation would cost A LOT of money- wouldn't make sense.

Yes it is frustrating. It was hard as heck finding those "difference" stamps!
