Yes, it hurts, but nothing to stop anyone from dancing, at least, people who really love it...After a while the pain goes away, either from numbness or from adjusting. Considered to be the ugliest part of a ballerina's body, but I'd say it is most beautiful.

What exactly do you mean by that? I have taken ballet class, and the class itself is quite painful, but ballet dancers don't suffer pain outside of class. In fact, the flexibility exercises we do prevent certain pains (such as tension and impacts).
