I hate to tell you, as beautiful as that necklace is, it's sending a message of love, not friendship. If I got a gift like that from a friend, I would think they were trying to tell me they wanted a deeper and romantic relationship to develop.
You could try a lariat with a different theme instead of love. If she's Christian, any of these could work.

Or maybe this one if she's not. It works either way.

There are plenty of generic styles that can mean friendhip, loyalty, etc... without the romantic implications of a heart. Try a circle pendant. It stands for the everlasting bond of any two people, not just love. This could work, and just use her birthstone in the top, and leave off any additional stones.

Or just find a style that incorperates the things she loves. There are all kinds of pendants for animals, sports, hobbies, etc... By now, you know her well enough to choose the one that fits her.
