purple is a secondary color obtained by mixing two of the primary colors red and blue which is in the ratio 1:1... mixing with greater red will produce red violet while blue violet when blue is greater in amount...
When green and orange are mixed, the product might be maroon because the mixture might produce yellow which may turn violet into maroon...
