No- because then all the other little children on the playground can play with their best friend ding dong. When they go home and mom asks if they made any new friends that day- the little kid can say "I played with Ding Dong all day- I love Ding Dong!"

After you adopt him, doesn't he got your Family name? Why do you worry about keeping his name for? Some agencies named those babies just by random names, no meaning at all. Why bother to keep it? Child's name should have meaning and blessing in it, and they will use them for rest of their lives. If you want to keep his Asian origins, I know some people keep their adopted kid given names as the middle names, so it will be either Ding or Dong for him, right?

Remember, now you are his parent. It is your right to give him a name you like and also your obligation to love him and protect him for rest of his life.

Don't use Ding Dong, I think it may consider as child abuse.

It would depend if he was a baby, I would change the name. And older child, I would talk to him about if they would want to or not. I would probably keep the "ding" if they wanted to keep it but not the dong part.

I'd change it so He doesn't get teased or beat up. But i'd find another Asian name that you like. (be sure to know it's meaning though. My parents named my adopted east indian sister Amber, then later found out it was a boys name!)

No, you should adopt another asian baby and rename them "Ho Ho" Of course if you want to be a really great parent you have to go for three and call the third baby "Twinkie"
