Living in the US on an H1 visa, is it lawful to work part-time during the weekends or during the week (say for a couple of hrs after office hrs)? My H1 is tied to employer X. I work full-time for X. Can any other employer hire me part-time and pay me salary?

A_B, a question of this magnitude should be addressed directly to the U.S. Immigration Department. So much would be at stake here if you were to get a wrong answer.

I would say that the safe answer is NO. Your H1B was approved because you demonstrated skill for a certain job (the one that you had), not for a second part time job.

First, contact a cheap attorney for confirmation. Not your company's attorney. Even though the attorney filed your petition, he represents the interests of the company, not yours. It is not in the company's interest to have employees working two jobs.

Also, you need to get an EAD before any company could legally hire you.
