The best wrestler in history is the immortal, Hulk Hogan. I'm named after the Hulk (my first name is Hogan). He was and is still by far one of the most popular wrestler in WWE. His taunts are also pretty impressive.
Second would be the Deadman. He has the talent, size, skill, and support.
Third would be a five way tie: Triple H, John Cena, the Rock, the Ultimate Warrior, and Kane.

Bret "The Hitman" Hart is the only answer I could even consider giving you to this question. He didn't need anybody to turn his career around, he did it on his own. He had a phenomenal ring presence, intriguing character design, and wrestling ability long lost in this modern day and age. The great Ric Flair said "Bret Hart is the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be. That's the TRUTH!" And Hulk Hogan has said " Bret Hart still makes me believe that wrestling is good" When the two men dubbed Icons in the wrestling world put that much behind one superstar who are we to argue.

I have watched it for some time, if you go back to the wwf days, Hart was the one who basically ran the company, but the ratings suffered with him. Bruno Sanmartino or Hulk Hogan had the longest shot at the title, but the rock and Steve Austin brought them out of the gutter after Hogan went to WCW. I guess they would have to be ranked as follows
Bruno
Bret Hart
Hogan
Austin
Rock
Sean Micheals
Foley
All these guys worked hard. The rock does not wrestle realy and had a short career, but he should return at some point.
