I worked at Countrywide about 10 years ago, not as a loan officer though, I know some Realtors that worked with the loan officers, but one of the loan officers committed fraud and he was let go,
I know Countrywide as a company is very solid, what mortgage brokers say about it is another story, not many like their rates and they are getting tougher and tougher with guidelines and restrictions, their compensation isn't the greatest, I used to submit a lot of loans to them years ago, their B paper in my area was extremely careless, & never returned phone calls, all you could do was leave msgs, their personnell was unreachable, I hated it.
I don't think highly of Countrywide at all, I've also had them as lender on one of my homes and wasn't too thrilled about how they handle their phone calls, I felt aggravated. Personally I don't think they are such a great company, they used to be years ago, the main issue is their rates, the retail side might be okay, you'll be working with large volumes, though we are approved with them to broker our loans, I don't think I want to use them, they lack organization and many other things that other lenders are able to provide, other lenders have much better rates, and more flexibility. Good luck if you go work for them.

Hi, I have never worked for them, but as a long time customer I can tell I have always been pleased. If they treat their employees half as well as the customers I should thing it would be a good place to work. We have been with them for about 14 years/2 different homes. Hope someone can give the info on the working side. Good luck to you.
