How big of a rip-off is a Sociology BA?

I have heard mixed stories to this question.

One side of the story claims that a Sociology BA is worthless and useless, and a waste of time and money. They claim that a Sociology BA is for losers and idiots.

On the other hand, there are also those who claim that a Sociology BA is the best BA to have, and that you can do so many things with it that it isn't even funny.

Which side is right?

Welcome to grad school, because you aren't getting a job with that nonsense.

well I actually of the people I know with a sociology degree they were unable to find jobs even with a MSW. One guy has an MSW and was working with young kids.. but when his state had budget cutbacks.. social programs were the first to go. In my area there is very low demand for it even with a masters degree...not to mention having high student loans to come out making 20 or 30K. it may not be worth it even if you can get a job.

There are truths to both sides of the story, but I guess whether or not your go on to get your Masters would also have an impact.
