Most spray de-icers are propyl alcohol which removes the ice until it rapidly evaporates.
I make my de-icer with windscreen deicer for adding to the wash bottle and then adding about 5% glycerol - from a chemists - to the mix.
The initial squirt clears the ice rapidly and the glycerol keeps the screen clear for a long while.
If you want a mix to wipe or spray from an old spray bottle half and half Meths and water with 10% glycerol works well.

Cooperman has already suggested a windscreen treatment.
The one I know of in the UK is called "RainX".
You apply it to the outside surface of the screen, and it makes the surface more slippery, so water (and frost) cannot stick so well.
If you still get some frost after applying this, it will scrape off more easily.

Use a proper plastic scraper to remove frost without damaging the glass.

You could put a cover over your windscreen, but these only work if the car is dry - if the car is already wet when you put the cover on, and it then freezes, it will be very hard to remove the ice.

Next time you change your car, consider one with a heated front windscreen (option on many Fords in Europe).

If you can't afford a pricey deicer i recommend using cardboard. Take a package box that is big enough to cover you windshield, break it down and place over the windshield and wiper blades. Use one piece not different sizes. I used to haft to drive in the snow and i have tried everything and the cardboard trick works the best. IMO! The trick is finding a way to get it to stay on your windshield. The cardboard might stick a little but only at the very edges of your windshield.
