Definitely Miles Davis. He was always pushing the envelope and developing new styles. He could pull creativity out of other musicians, like John Coltrane, unlike any other leader. His Kind of Blue is the top selling jazz album of all time.

I have to go with Trane. He built on things that were pioneered by both Miles and Bird. I believe that he is the fruition and the logical result of the genius of both Miles and Bird. Coltrane is the best.

In my opinion, Miles Davis by far. Not only was he a cutting edge of and by himself; he inspired an entire generation of musicians to come.

I believe Miles is the greatest. What he did with the trumpet was breakthrough and not until Wynton Marsalis have I heard such talent. (much to the chagrin of Davis) I believe it is a more challenging instrument than the sax but all three were phenomenons...despite their demons...

go by my heart....Al were great in their own right..but ...trane spoke to my heart and soul and I will always feel changed by his insistent cry for....what he was searching for. Wonder if he found it...He woke something up in me..some thing that wont ever sleep...his quest for truth (any one got tears in their eye's yet)... I really got to say no one has ever touched that region of my being...Hendricks came close...I would have loved to see Hendricks and Miles play together
