Years ago, I had this sick fantasy that there existed a person called "The White Wolf". In every way, he was better than me, smarter, stronger, taller, cooler, but especially faster.
You see, I had this sick obsession with running. I say this is sick because I would run top off in below freezing temperature late at night to "train" my body. Miraculously, I never got sick...
Anyways, whenever I got stronger or faster, obviously, I believed he got stronger and faster. So why do I do this? This is definitely very unhealthy of me, so why do I continue? Why do I continue to believe there is this impossible person?

Every one needs a goal. Having a goal that is always better than you means constant improvement .... up to the point that you fall over dead anyway.

There's nothing wrong with wanting to be the best. I've heard that the winner is the one who wants the goal more than all the rest. It becomes abnormal when you ignore everything else in your life, such as your social life or academics. You can be the best runner there is, and miserably suck at personal relationships. Go for the gold, but take others with you. You'll find that the gold is in your family and friends, not in a round piece of metal.

Maybe secretly you are the White Wolf or obviously you're just unhappy with yourself and think you'll never be physically strong enough da da etc...and you look up to this White wolf as your ideal to always improve, be happy with yourself and stop worrying about white wolf b/c he's not even real, but self improvement is still a good thing

Who's to say it's unhealthy?

"Normal" is not the same as "Healthy."

No one wants to be human, and at some level we don't want to be normal, either.
I'm a whitewater kayaker, we take risks and push ourselves for the feeling we get after it. Life isn't safe, and I'm way better off in the river than I am watching TV.

It seems you may be setting yourself up for failure. Did you have issues as a child of not receiving praise or being told you weren't good enough? It seems you've set yourself an unattainable goal. You need to work on accepting yourself for who you are!!
