its dust.
the only way you can help stop this some...and I mean only some is a good coat of wax.
the wax will lower the static electric charge in the paint and help prevent dust and other particles from wanting to stick to the car.
if you are using like a cotton bathtowel to dry the car this will increase the static charge. use micro towels to dry and wax the car.

You need discharge the static charge in your car. With the air friction your car change the potencial and it is like magnet like you say, all dust will be transported free for your car.
Go to some auto store and ask a product that normally you can add to your bumper it is a wire that put the car in contact with the floor an discharge the current.
Maybe you saw some tracks with chains hanging and tooching the paviment that chains are for that.

1) Stop parking next to the clothes dryer when you plug it in to recharge.
2) Hang a small chain from the chassis to the ground to help discharge the vehicle.
3) A sheet of plastic draped over the car during the night will help it stay clean also.
Dirt, dust and debris shows up easier on dark color bodies.

yeah matey cars are a magnet in a lot of ways, it depends on the colour too did you know white is easy to keep clean2?
some people put rubber strips under there cars that touch the ground to take the static out of the car that might help plus use a good brand polish.

It's possible but I would get a second opinion on that 2 1/2 yr. old battery. Also it could be the starter itself(worn brushes & bushings)

Wash it at dusk, than look at it at dark.
There is no force this side of h;ll that will prevent that.
Been showing cars for 20yrs, and this has been a pain in the ;[';;#. for me.
