I think emotions can be controlled in a healthy manner through interests and passions that distract your mind from yourself - from your hurts, from your fears, from outcomes you are dreading, etc. Playing sports, working out, learning to play a musical instrument, campaigning for a cause that is important to you, taking photographs, making art, volunteering, etc can all be valuable outlets to escape yourself a bit.

try meditation, yoga, tai-chi or zen. these disciplines will not turn off your emotions but they will help you gain clarity and consequently will greatly ease and soothe the roiling feelings inside you. thing of it as defragging the mind :)

there is no way to turn off your emotions all you can do is try to talk to who ever it is that is the one who has you wanting to turn them off. once you work through that then your emotions will be alot clearer hope this helps

Then you'd be a sociopath and sent to a mental ward. You really want that? Your family and friends would die and you'd feel no grief or anything.

Think of the bigger picture... How big the world is and what not, and how meaningless your petty problems really are. That always helps :)
