I've done this before, here is what I did.

Hit the Print screen button, this will add the image to your clip board.

Open up 'Paint' by going to Start, Accessories, Paint.

hit cntrl + v (for paste)

Save As (Add your title there)

Save As Type (just below Save As) JPEG. (This will be a drop down menu, select the appropriate file format you actually want)

Fun Prank!

Hit the prt scr button, and then paste the bmp image into Paint. Hide the taskbar by dragging it down, and right click on the desktop. Select "arrange icons by", and then uncheck "show desktop items". Change the desktop wallpaper to your saved Paint bmp.

Whoever else uses that computer will be frustrated when they click on icons that no longer work. You didn't hear this from me ; )

You can use the Print Screen function on your keyboard.
Then open up a photo editing program like Photoshop, and paste it in a new window.

You can do the necessary editing before you save the snapshot.

Press + at the same time. The picture will be saved to what is called a meta file. Then, open your image software, and paste it to the work area. You can then save it in whatever format your image software will allow.

to get every last thing on your screen just hit the "prtscn" key up in the top row. then open any art program and select "paste" and you will see your desktop as an image.

if you want to only capture the window that is open, then hit "alt + prtscn" key.
