Quit talkin through your *** painfully... they are either bad or they have incredible songs. I'd smack you silly for calling those 4 songs incredible and missing all their other great tunes if you were near me fucktard! What about Clampdown, Career Opportunities, Guns of Brixton, Train In Vain and tons of other stuff. By the way 'Love Kills' is not a Clash song you *** monkey! It's Joe Strummer solo!!

The Clash are the Kings of Punk Forever! The Sex Pistols are not far behind for me! The Ramones are about the 10th greatest ever!:-) I'll take bands like The Misfits or Iggy and the Stooges over them amoung others. And you my sweet rocker boy have got me into Lou Reed and the Velvet Underground a lot lately! Love them!

And to all these idiots who say Green Day is a pop punk band or a boy band...simply FU*CK YOU!! Your so stupid! I'm not saying that they are one of the very best ever but they are a real punk band for sure! They are loud, aggresive, semi-crazy, full of attitude, cut through the bs and always pay homeage to The Clash! So Fu*ck You again just for being so stupid!

I've answered this question before, and I'll give the same answer I always give-

Best Attitude: The Sex Pistols

Best Music: The Clash

Best Energy: The Adicts and The Rezillos (also, props to The Adicts for still being together)

For starting it all: MC5, The Velvet Underground and The Stooges

Best Pop-Punk: The Ramones, The Talking Heads, Generation X and The B-52s

Best Grunge-y Punk: The Distillers and X

Best Lyrics: Bad Religion (despite lack of variety in their music, their lyrics are amazing) and The Clash (yes, again)

Best Chick Punk: Bikini Kill

Best 80s Hardcore Punk: Dead Kennedys and Agent Orange

For not fitting into any of the above categories: Devo

For coolness the Ramones

For the most punk f-ck all attitude, Black Flag. No other band will come near them.

I'd like to see Green Day and all the bands that call themselves "punk" today slug it out with a bunch of skinheads that jump on the stage then put up with cops harrassing them like Flag did.

N/A

no such thing as a great punk band. punk is an inherently bad form of music. however, the clash wrote 4 incredible songs (london calling, lost in the supermarket, rock the casbah and love kills) so i vote for them! anyone who says green day can go to hell. the ramones are also an acceptable answer, of course.

The Clash, the Ramones, and the Sex Pistols in that order.

Depends what kind of punk you are talking about, i'll just do a few, but for me, Sin Dios are the Kings of Anarcho Punk (forgive my oxymoron).

Sex Pistols for original punk bands.

Hmmm, speed punk/ noise, Melt Banana.

Oi Polloi are up there too, and for Gainesville punk rock, which is the only form of punk rock that should be recognised, Black Cougar Shock Unit, Panthro United. Oh yeah!

Oh, and whoever said The Ataris, think you should go shove a red hot poker up your anus. I thought you might like it seeing as you obviously like torturing your ears, you might as well go for broke.

The Ataris are not a punk band, they are a boy band, as are AFI, Green Day (a.k.a. we steal riffs from Rites of Spring), NoFX, Lagwagin and all that utter utter MTV ******** pretending to be punk.
