I need some help here. I'm a talented junior who plays in tournaments, blah blah blah. Let me get to the point. Anyways, everybody says I'm extremely talented, but also that I'm bogged by my pride. You know, if they say "hit your serve like this!" I'll be all stubborn and just stick with my old way. I do eventually get the point, but it takes a long time. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOW DO I CHANGE!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I am a junior who plays nationals too. I can understand what it feels like to change something. I don't like it either. But I'm looking at the bigger picture. The coaches know best, and you should listen to them. Yes, your serve might be good now. But what your coach is trying to tell you will probably make your serve a weapon a year from now. I had a great forehand untill I got a moved and got a new coach. At first, it wouldn't go in. I was so frustrated! But now, my forehand is a weapon, I can set up points much better. And although it took me a long time to relize this ( i still don't realize this sometimes ) your coaches are looking past your Junior career.

Hi bro ! First of all could I know ur age
If they say u are extremely talented then probably u are
But what I get from what u've written that U are a bit stubborn like I was when I was about 13-14 years old ................ Its very natural in the teenagers (till about 16 or 17)
But if a person whom U respect comes to you and gives you some tips to improve your game you should think it over before implementing it & If a person whom U don't respect advises U I think most of us don't even listen to him/her intensely
I was able to tell all these things to U coz I've faced this thing & am still facing

i played tennis circuit as junior nationally.
the problem is not you it's the coaching. i was the same way. when someone is trying to show you a different techinique it natuaraly will not feel right so you resort to what is comfortable i always have thought that there nothing wrong with this you cant change people natural tendencies. bottom line is
go with what feels good to you there is no wright or wrong as long as it works for you. improve your fittnes thats always number 1. look at agassi he is a machine.
good luck and go with your own games strenghts.

I dont really think it might be the coaches fault.OK,if the coach is good, then hell find a different approach. But take his commands as a challenge.Like,Ill beat you by learning the right way,Im gonna surprise you,you just wait.Im 13 and this is how I naturally think ^_^

It is good that you know your problem. It is now up to you to accept the facts to make changes of yourself. However, do note that no all advices are suitable for you. You have to evaluate it and make wise choice. No harm trying something new or different of what you have been doing. Be logical when making decision.

Compared to the best (I am talking top 100) you suck at tennis. They would destroy you. So what if you are talented. If you want to be successful, you have to be smart about learning. You have to listen to every word you hear and really work to understand the physics and concepts to tennis (know why the ball does what it does). Realize that you are slowing yourself down by how you think.

You may need to find a new coach. It happens all the time. One you will respect and listen to. You seem to need a bit of a clean slate.
