Acting classes are extremely difficult and time-consuming. You have to rehearse scenes with a scene partner. You are not ready for headshots, agent, voice coach, etc. You have to take and complete acting classes. Acting classes require years of study, make sure you want to commit time to your training as an actor. It's not something to take lightly. It looks easy, but it is extremely difficult and most actors do not do it well.

HB Studio has an excellent reputation for training actors. I studied there. Many famous actors also studied there. Classes are not expensive.

HB was founded by Uta Hagen and Herbert Berghof.

The first step is to take acting classes. Agents can't help you if you are not a trained actor. Once you are ready for auditions, you can find headshot photographers, by asking students in acting class. Actors will share their contact info of their photographers. Don't run before you can walk! GET TRAINED!

Community colleges offer theatre classes. Take as many as you can. Study actors on film. Participate in summer stock theatre, even if the part is small. Voice coaches are listed in the phone book. You won't need an agent for a while yet. Headshots cost money to have them done professionally, so in the meantime, do you know someone (a friend) who has a good camera and can shoot lots of film so you can pick out the most diverse/best photos? That will be your first portfolio.

And network, network, network. Practice, practice, practice your craft. The Actor's Studio is the finest in the nation. See if you can get accepted there.

Best wishes.

First, most definately enroll in some acting classes. There are a whole bunch of schools in New York for acting, and really the best thing to do would be enroll in a conservatory program. Circle in the Square has a great two year program! It's expensive, but everything is, and it really will help you out. Next, you said you wan to find a voice teacher. Do you mean vocal, or voice and speech? If you mean vocal, like music, then ask some of your friends who are in acting, who have voice teachers. They'll be able to reccomend someone who they think is good, and they'll be able to tell you if you're going to be compatible with him or her. For right now, I wouldn't really worry about headshots and resumes. I mean, professional ones. I took my own... just bring your camera out in the city and snap pictures of yourself in cool lactions. If you've got a digital camera it'll be easier cause then you can blurr the background a little so you're the one in focus, and you can make it black and white easier. The last thing is audition your *** off. Get copies of Backstage off of those news stands and hit each and every audition you can. Get there early to put your name on the list, and audition away. If you have nice directors they'll call you back and give you a lot of good feedback, or you'll get a callback! Good luck! Hope to see you on the audition floor!

First and foremost you are assuming that you have talent already. Acting classes/schools are extremely time consuming, and the classes will only help you if you are refining an existing talent.

If you couldn't take this comment you aren't ready... a lot of acting is being able to accept rejection, and redirect it. There will be a lot of NO's before you get a YES! Just be prepared!

first off your very lucky you live in NY there are tons of agents/managers there, tons of photgraphers, and tons of singing coaches but there are also tons of scam artists and people who just want to rip you off, so if they ask you to pay any money upfromt they are probabally scaming you.
