I want to join the soccer team but I dont really know anything about soccer. I think there's no cuts for JV team. If i do happen to join the team, how long does it take me to learn the game and what should I do to prepare?

Soccer requires more skill and technique then an other sport i can think of (maybe baseball is about the same). One of the simplest and best ways to learn and improve your game is to get a ball and fined a wall or some place where you can kick the ball and it will bonce back at you. Do this for a few hours a day use both feet your head and body. Try different things when your doing this and it will help u learn how to control the ball and develop a good touch on the ball which is essential for any player at any position. You may want to learn some of the basics first like passing, trapping, shooting heading but they won't take you very long to learn ( a few days of practice) but i while to master. Also watch(Live or on TV) has much soccer has u can you'll learn a lot about the game from that. All the other suggestions are good too.

I agree that you should try out. You may well turn out to be the worst on the team at first, but as time passes you will improve. Everyone must start as a raw rookie at some point. In try outs, don't forget to ask the coach questions if you don't understand something. The coach may simply assume everyone knows all about soccer. Elizabeth's recommendation above that, if you don't make the team play intramural soccer, is an excellent idea. I would also recommend that you sign up for Fall (if not too late to register) and Spring recreation league soccer team. That will help you tremendously for next year's try outs.

I think you should tryout. To start learning the basics you can go to the library and checkout a basic book on soccer. I would start conditioning, today. Start running. In an average soccer game you can cover up to 4 miles. I also would buy a soccer ball. Start working on dribbling and passing. Practice will be critical. Practice at all opportunities. Did I mention to start running? Do it! It will make a difference.

It all depends on how devoted you are in learning the game. I suggest you to start going running everyday! Soccer involves a lot of running.

Wow. The more practise you get dribbling th ball around the better. Run around your neighborhood with the ball between your legs (on the ground, with you kicking it). Go to some website to find out about the rules.

This is a good website for all things that you want to become great at:
