I did t shirts, banners, posters, jackets, and the other candidate didn't do anything. He is very popular and that is why i think he won. In his speach you couldn't even hear what he was saying, he just sat there and mumbled. I even handed out fliers. My speach was well though out and showed all of my ideas. When i looked on the paper who said who won, i saw his name and cryed for two and a half hours. I couldn't stop. Everyone got my hopes up saying i would win. It was a shock to see his name there. well he is very popular, and very rich. it isnt fair. It is such a popularity contest. I hate it. i tried everything. But, what do i do to get it into my head and not cry everytime somone mentions his name or asks if i won? I keep thinking that i will go to school and i will be president. I will talk on the loud speaker, but no, it will still be him, the one that gets everything. I seriously need help. I cant believe i cant stop crying. I am a girl so yes PUBIRTY... but still, just please!

Suck it up and try again next year.

Don't let anyone see you down. Be strong and even be supportive of the winner. Offer to do whatever you can do to help them

That will give you the experience you need to run again or run when you get to college.

I lost an election my senior year in high school to be class president..... I didn't want that..I wanted President...but I didn't let that stop me...I worked hard and I ended up getting the experience I needed and grades I needed

In college I was president of my fraternity...president of the interfraternity council....and president of the student body by my junior year....I had to take some student senate seats before working my way up but it all turned out for the better.

in college there are way too many people for it to be a popularity contest....just think...now you have more time to get great grades and get a good scholarship to get out of your town and be somebody....meanwhile...he'll probably stay there because that's where people know him and the only place people will like him.

keep your head up....there are much better days to come.

Unfortunately, you are soo right about the popularity contest. I have thought about it and thought about it and I've never actually done it so the fact that you put yourself out there is impressive, congrats to you! On the other hand, just think of it this way...he's going to be a bum and a loser while you will be the elite. As hard as it might be to think in the long term (cause I know it's really hard for me!) maybe you can go for a serious electoral role. And if you do all that and the other candidate does nothing then you will win, because no one will know the other guy and everyone will know you because you put yourself out there and you promoted yourself. Just take a deep breath and go do something else. Cry it all out until you cant cry anymore then go do something. Maybe play with a sibling or go shopping with a couple of friends at the mall. It's not the end of the world and if you try to do something, you will be shocked by how quickly you can get over this.

Yes, sometimes it's just a popularity race. You will face many disappointments in life. Even if you try harder, work more, and put all your effort into something, sometimes it just doesn't turn out well. Wash your face, walk proud and tall and know that you did your best.
Here's what Lincoln said when he lost an election: He said he felt like the little boy who had stubbed his toe in the dark. He said he was too old to cry but it hurt too much to laugh.
And you know that he went on to win a BIG election. Don't be discouraged. Carry on. There are worse things than losing an election.

u ahve to stay with them for the whole year so u gotaa get a hold of urself and calm ur self down

the best thing rite now u can do is
not cry and go and congratulate him
so that everybody knows that this has nt affete d ya and ur happyfor him and then go to the washroom and cry as much as u want to
and stop thinking about the speaking in front of the mike thing
move on there are better things in life its isnt the end of the world so what if he is opular and the president

This happened 2 me once. I ran for School president. I made fliers made posts and had about 50 people making pins. The other canididate didnt do anything. He just sat there and say randomly said Hey vote for me. I made a best speak i can ever make. No one claped. The other guy comes. He says Hello ladies and winks and everyone claps. I was ashamed for him and our school. I mean what kind of retard will do that? Well at the election, I lost about 300-400 votes. About 5 days later he got in fight with his friends and his friend got mad so told the principle that he Paid people to actually clap and vote for him. Shame...

School always was and always will be a popularity contest. Take heart that most of the time the rich, popular ones end up in crappy dead-end jobs while you'll probably do something really worthwhile. Believe me, I'm 30 now and I never did fit in. All the "teen royalty" at my school didn't fare very well - they are all cashiers, maintenance workers, unskilled labourers, etc. People like that try to drift through life on their parents coattails and it rarely gets them any farther than college. (((HUGS))) You gave it your best shot, you did all you could. Don't let him get you down, keep your head held high and be proud.

:-( I lost the election for Commissioner of Publicity by nine votes in a runoff. I ran again the next year and won, but by then my motivation had flagged. :-( That did hurt (hey, the election was in spring '78, and I still remember the part about losing by 9 votes in a runoff?).

I was also a junior volunteer at a local hospital at the time, and it helped to have some social investment in another milieu besides the high school. Would hospital volunteering interest you? Senior year, I was Decorations Committee Chairman for the volunteer office (this was an appointed position; I think maybe I shared it--I think they wanted to encourage involvement so everyone who was interested in one of the "chairman" positions got one or shared one).

I can only suggest you tell ALL this to your parents, and maybe school counselor.
It sounds like he'll need help, could you help him do a good job?
I am sorry for your set back, but it's only a set back - there is next year, and he will need help, which will help you, also.
I never had the courage you do, to even try student politics. Build on this courage, and your self confidence - as this will be important later when your in college.
The popular kids - shoot confident kid always might as well have been on a different planet, I never mixed with them at all. BUT I had SOLID SUPPORT FROM MY FRIENDS, so had a great time during my school years.
Refocus on your goals of graduating from college/university and later.

that's all it is. a popularity contest. but if he really isn't prepared and he only ran just for the hell of it, he'll get what's coming to him. i kno it makes you angry, but at least you got to run. you had the guts to go up against him. that kind of courage will pay off. just think of him as a bump in the road. he's using his popularity to his advantage. that's gonna fade. people get older and they grow apart. he won't be the popular guy forever and when it's gone, will he still be able to get ahead? you KNOW you will. just have faith. you're destined for better.
