congratulations Dauan Island it is... with mouth cornwallis being its peak.... and while other islands are closer to the png mainland (Saibi and Boigu) they consist of habitate mud flads formed by silt flowing from the fly river....

That would be Prince of Wales Island in the Endeavor Straits although Banks Island is about the same distance and has a mountain at 1310' elevation compared to Pof WIs. at only 800'. So I'll say go with Banks Island!
