We know the cons of smoking, but is there any benefit of it?
Can anyone tell me?

I smoked for 5 years and the only benefits I could say were, number 1: it was a social thing. Like if you're in a meeting with a bunch of people you don't know and they take a break, everybody that goes outside and smokes together has their own little conversation going like your automatically friends because you smoke. Number 2: I got alot more breaks from work to go have a cigarette. People would ask where I was and If someone said "outside smoking" it was like an excuse that was automatically accepted. It sounds dumb now that I don't smoke but it's true.

In the first half of the last century doctors recommended smoking to calm the nerves. However, in the second half of the last century research was done which showed that although smokers say cigarettes have an immediate calming effect, in fact smokers are much more likely to suffer from stress than non-smokers, and stress levels do in fact reduce once someone has succeeded in kicking the habit. Another advantage is that as smokers die at a younger age than non-smokers, their pensions don't need to pay out so much money so there is more in the pot for the other pension holders. And for the many smokers who die during their working life, they are opening up vacancies for those who are out of work. Then there is the boost to the funeral industry, coffin making industry, to the therapists who are needed for the bereaved the smoker leaves behind, and not forgetting the drug industry that make billions out of treatments for lung cancer, all other types of cancer, heart disease, etc. and of course all the hospital workers. So you could say cigarettes are a real boost to our economy.

There are no benefits of smoking. I used to be a smoker and it didn't benefit me at all, it only gives you trouble. Now that I am not smoking I feel alot better.

The only benefit I can see is if you don't like kissing because nobody likes to kiss someone that smells like an ashtray. Believe me, I used to smoke and there are no benefits.

You haven't heard any because there are NONE.

However, people like to try and pass the following things off as benefits even though they are easily explained as other things.

Helps you relax.
Lose weight.
"keeps your hands busy"

I'm guessing the only real benefit is to do with socialising with other smokers.

Lets see.....It cuts down on your life span, so you die with a good looking corpse. Nobody wants to drive with you, cause you smell. It relaxes. It keeps you from overeating. And believe it or not, some people say that if you smoke you really look cool! But that would depend upon how you hold the smoke.

Non that I have ever heard of. I used to be a smoker and I thought that smoking helped me relax but in reality all it does is raise your blood pressure. So I guess people that smoke may think that it is helping them in a certain way but it probably isn't

Im gonna keep it real with you. Only in social situations, like in bars, if your just sitting there doing nothing from time to time and you cant afford drink after drink, a cigarette in hand is cool. It keeps your weight down, instead of eating, you can have a cigarette and your appetite will disappear. Cigarettes are harder to quit than heroin so dont start!!!
