It's probably because it is less prestigious. The truth of the matter though is that more male nurses are needed to give the profession a sense of balance. As a man, it is really nice to have a male nurse on staff at a hospital or clinic (especially a men's clinic). Many men would prefer having a male nurse, especially if catheters and things like that are needed.

If you are thinking of choosing nursing as a career, I support you wholeheartedly. It is a very honorable profession. You make good money and always have a job.

Men want positions where they are in charge and contol things that happen. A nurse's shift is controled by the amount and needs of her patients. A nurse also takes orders from doctor's and cannot act without the doctor's instruction unless a certain treament is under his/her jurisdiction. Nursing careers have also been seen for many generations as a female profession.

If they guys in high school that a nurse could make 36 bucks an hour like they do here in Canada, the line would be out the door to sign up. All the need to do in change the name of "nurse" to "paramedic" or "something_medic" and there would be no shortage.

probably because it's traditionally a female dominated career. we get called male nurses, instead of just nurses. This is also true of women becoming doctors, althought i think it is getting better for them. they would be referred to as female or women doctors, instead of just doctor. but, hey, if you like the pay and hours, it's a great job! also, where else can you meet so many women!

nursing is working long hours and not a very high pay... it requires patience and passion. men needs to feed their family and be there for their family more often. not saying that dctors working hours are like that. but my personal opinion is that, the pay wise, men are not all that.. yup.. no offence though
cheers

Not enough prestige, or money. Besides, men look stupid wearing skirts.
