Verizon is not in WiFi business, but are you sure it is WiFi that you are using? Verizon is in data-over-network business using one of GPRS/EDGE or EV-DO and Smartphone usually has no WiFi. Data usage is only happening if in EV-DO mode.

I called Verizon customer service to ask them. They said that any data usage through the phone is billable data. Not only that, but they also said that the phone itself will automatically update itself on a regular basis, which is also data usage.

I went to the Verizon store and asked a guy who worked there. He had no idea.

I talked to a guy at a different store, and he said that there is no billing for WiFi usage.

So now we have 2 opposiong answers and 1 indefinite. I intend to call again and make sure I am speaking to someone who knows what they are talking about. Verizon should not be allowed to charge their customers for using a phone feature that is not a part of their provided service. It would be as ridiculous as billing you for charging the battery.

No. If you are using Wi-Fi that is not considered internet usage for billing purposes.

Be careful though to make sure you are using Wi-Fi rather than EVDO. If you are using EVDO your internet usage charges will go through the roof. If you want to use Wi-Fi for internet go here: www.pdaphone.com and learn how to disable EVDO on your phone so you won't have to worry about charges. You will still be able to use your Wi-Fi.

Another way to make sure you are not using EVDO is to turn your phone off and your Wi-Fi on before connecting to the internet. You will have to turn your phone on after you are finished.

yup I have right before ending my first marriage. I even had a friend that was interested in helping me. But I was just really starved for attention, confused about my life and well a bit curious. I didn't want to end up hurting her in my confused state so I didn't allow anything to begin. She was sweet and if I was going to switch I would give her a call.
