Help! My dad just got tickets to the world series tomarrow from a friend, and asked me to go with him! I work 7pm-7am so I'd have to call in to work. I hate calling in sick when I'm not and I'm paranoid I'll get found out! Too late to find someone to cover for me. Someone please tell me something to make me not feel guilty and paranoid!

On a personal note, it would be a very special occasion for me and my dad. He has terminal cancer. We both love baseball, it's always been kind of our special bond. He hasn't been to a world series since '68. (Cardinals vs Detroit!) I really want to go with him.

Go to the world series with your dad. It might be a once in a lifetime chance to even go and watch the game live. Plus it will give you a nice memory of you and your dad. Don't be paranoid about work, call in.

What is more important than having this wonderful memory with your dad? For Heaven sakes, go with your Dad, root for THE CARDINALS and tell them the truth at your work place. If they don't understand the importance of being with your dad and his terminal illness not to mention the significance of being at a world series game for OUR CARDINALS, then I wouldn't want to work for a company like that. Go Cards and have a ball with your Daddy! Enjoy every minute with him!!!!

Honey, we are talking about the World Series here. Of course you NEED to call in sick. Like you say, this will be a good experience for both you and you're dad. So, call in sick and enjoy the game with you're dad. Go TIGERS!!!!

I would say yes, because you never know if your team will ever go back to another World Series. But, make sure you have a very good excuse to get out of work, and make sure you're not on TV!

Call in sick and don't feel so bad. It's the World Series. Also, do it for your Dad. It will be an experience and memory you will cherish for the rest of your life.

By all means, go to the World series. You can always find jobs later but you can not buy time and a memory.

Call you company and say you have some important family buisness to take care of. They should not ask further.

You don't have to tell lies about sick.

Don't you have any personal time or vacation days to take. If you do call your boss and say hey look I want to go to the game. You don't get to see your team in the series all the time you know. Go for it

Yes, call in sick. Too bad you can't be honest about the reason you want the day off, but if you're a good employee that shows up for work on time and dependable, then you deserve this special time. And you have to "play the game" and tell them you're sick. They just hate it if you take time off to be happy, but somehow it's acceptable if you're miserable. Sad but true.

I call it a "Mental and Spiritual Health" day. This allows me to take proactive self healing days for massage, pedicures, afternoon movies or naps and of course World Series tickets. That is a no-brainer. You will regret not spending time with your father, not missing a day at work.
