Ok, I have thought about it for a while, and here is a plan I am going to send you Yahoo! to cut back on the gay bashing and to prevent harassment, feel free to constucted criticism, and sign if you agree to it:
When someone first signs up for a Yahoo! account, there should be a new question asked, sexual orientation. If you sign up straight, then you are resticted from the gay section. (I know it isn't fair, but it is the best way to prevent bashing.) All gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgenders will be allowed. After this goes into effect, all members who already have an account will be asked their orientation the next time they log in. If they sign up as straight, then they are restricted from the gay section.
To make sure that the basher are completely filtered out, Yahoo! should issue out a "Five-Stikes Your Out" system. This means that if you ask an question on the LGBT section an you get 5 thumbs down, then you are resticted from this section permanently.

I know it isn't fool proof but it is a start, so maybe we can add on to it to make something perfect.

Well, I dont' necessarily like that idea. There are some straight people that come to us with real, legitimate questions. True they are few and far between, but it does happen. And besides, people could just lie and say they're gay.

I don't think this would work...first anybody could lie so segragation won't work.
I read the religion and politics sections and the hamster(yahoo) has really cleaned things up in the last couple of months. they delete and fine the offending posters -10 pts for each off color or offensive post and some lose their emails too. This has greatly reduced the insult questions and I think if everyone would report the bad stuff it will stop. lately I've seen questions that are people whining about loosing points and having questions deleted or one claiming to have fewer best answers than the day before and 7 answers saying basicly the same thing...
If you answer a question that is later deleted you best answer goes too. I don't know if you loose points or not... I do know the politics is allot better, or at least the namecalling has stopped..
your idea is simply unworkable. It's one of those theories that sounds good on paper but the devil is in the details and it just would not work.
just report the flamers. they will quit when they loose points and email accounts.

It's also the best way to exclude a lot of straight people who want to offer their support and understanding, and who hate the bashers probably just as much as their targets do. I am one such person. It would irritate me if I were restricted from this section because I am straight. I mean, heck, so what if I'm straight. I still have a gay brother, and several gay friends, fellow students, and coworkers, who I show support for in events like the Day of Silence (for the past six years) and National Coming Out Day. I belonged to the Gay-Straight Alliance in high school, and would in my college as well if they didn't meet during one of the few times I'm regularly scheduled to work, and I'm completely for gay rights and plan to vote against the ridiculous marriage ban. Excluding straight people who feel the same is not the best way. Absolutely not.

Iam uncertain if there is any in domicile foolproof thought, possibly mods like some chat sites have nevertheless the insult gets out till now the mod can ban the guy from the positioning. some have faith that via fact this internet site is a private corporation by some skill they're above the regulations, and others some how see this as a censorship merchandise-neither carry any good judgment. The regulation of freedom of speach quite in public places is crystal sparkling you have the spectacular to do many stuff say many stuff yet whilst despite the fact which you do or say crosses a particular criminal line, and in doing so breaches yet another persons rights your rights provide up. see regulation ll

I am straight and I have never bashed on someones sexual orientation. Your solution could go towards many of the categories in Yahoo. I am a Christian and we get bashers on a regular basis in that category. I would say that ignoring and reporting them is the best solution. I think after 25 reports and it being substantiated the person should have their account deleted, and not given another one with that email address. There is no 'one solution' because people who want to harass will always find loopholes.

I have an idea. What about allowing people who ask legitimate questions to delete hateful or offensive responses. Also what about electing a member of the Yahoo! Answer community to be come a designated officer that has the power to delete offensive questions before they reach the general public. Just a thought.

That's a great idea, if it could work that would be alright with me, then maybe we could all come here and ask questions and receive answers without worrying about some negative idiot doing us verbal harm. I like that idea. Although I know it is not fair for the "good" straight people it will hopefully keep those out that can't stand the idea that we are people too, with rights and dignity. I'll sign. :)

This isn't a dating service. Go back to that drawing board, next thing you know the overweight people will be banned from the dining out section, the dog lovers will be forbidden to answer cat questions and anyone that supports GW will be prohibited from the government area.
You can't control people and there are haters everywhere. If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen. If you can't hang with the big dogs, stay the hell on the porch. Get my point?
BTW - You can't put a question mark on the end of a statement and make it a question.
So,.....what's the question anyway??

I think it could work, but I'm straight and I answer gay?lesbian questions. I think that they should add a new thing you can be reported for - gay-bashing. And don't listen to Olga, she's a homophobic idiot.

well I like the idea of stopping the gay bashing...but does that mean that gays can't answer on other sites...no equality there...also I enjoy some of the straight people's questions on the gay site...not all straights are unintelligent homophobes...so as much as I agree with the fact that there is a problem..sorry I see flaws in your solution.
