It's hard to tell you what to wear when we don't know what kind of position you're interviewing for. So, here's a list of things NOT to wear:
Jeans
Ripped pants of any kind
Shorts, capris, sweat pants
Sweatshirts, tee shirts, tank tops, etc.
Anything overly low-cut or revealing
Tops that show your belly button
Pants that show your underwear
Pants or skirts that show that you aren't wearing any underwear
Any shirt that shows your bra strap, or lack of a bra strap if you need one
Dirty or torn clothing
Shirts with obscene graphics or words
Hats
Sunglasses (during the interview)
Gaudy jewelry
Long, fake fingernails that look like small weapons
Excessive perfume or scents of any kind
Flip-flops or thongs
No matter what you wear, it should be clean, neatly pressed, and be fitting for the position. For instance, if you are interviewing for a fast-food position, you likely don't need a skirt and heels. But if you're interviewing for a more professional type setting, that would be appropriate.
Shoes with socks or hose are a nice touch; so many places are very casual these days, but for an interview, put on the socks or hose and just be uncomfortable for a while. It's an interview, not a fashion show.

Remember, YOU are applying for the job, not your clothes. Dress neatly and clean and avoid any "statement" with your clothes. A skirt and top is fine, not a short skirt, long enough that you don't place the interviewer in an uncomfortable position.
Again, the emphasis needs to be on YOU and not your clothes. For a man, I recommend a shirt and tie and clean pressed slacks. A jacket if the business seems to be formal. Wearing one cannot hurt.
A suit for a woman is also good.

It depends on what job you're applying for and what industry. For most business industries (outside of fashion, entertainment, retail etc), you're fine wearing a knee length solid color skirt, conservative shirt (not too low cut, not too brightly colored) and closed toed shoes. Of course, wear hose, too.
For upper level or managerial positions, you should really try to wear a suit, or skirt and jacket combination.
