My girlfriend owns a 2000 Kia Sephia. Today I parked her car into the driveway and noticed that the shifter was very stiff she stated that it has been like that for a while. When she started the car it would not until she moved the gear selector back and forth and eventually got it started into neutral but then placed it into park and went in to let the car warm up (Canada weather) After a few minutes the car rolled back and hit a trailer. Does anyone know how much this type of repair(not the bodywork) would cost? Any help would be great.

YOur park pin in the transmission broke. Its a pin that goes inside a hole when u put the car in park. The part is not expensive , but the work can be a pain in the hiny. Its could be a good 1.5 hr work. WHen you go to a mechanic , tell tehm u u know that s the problem , so they know u know :),. The other possiblilty is that the pin broke the casing , in that case u might need a new casing , ..that could cost u an arm and a leg. U can try to find a place where they weld alyminum, and see if they can repair it if that s the case.

MOST LIKELY - - it wouldn't cost more than $75.00. It should just need adjustment of the linkage, and it SHOULDN'T take more than 45 minutes.
If there are parts damaged, or the parking paul inside the transmission is damaged or missing, there could be a fairly steep repair bill coming.
Go for the external linkage adjustment first.

Good Luck

guide transmission: makes use of the engine compression to help shop the vehicle from rolling. The mechanical income of the equipment ratios helps the compression of the engine to shop the vehicle from rolling on all notwithstanding the steepest hills. One college of idea: in case your vehicle might want to have an inclination to roll ahead downhill, positioned the transmission in 1st equipment; opposite equipment if the vehicle might want to have an inclination to roll downhill backwards. yet another college of idea: positioned the transmission in 1st equipment regardless. It has the bottom ratio.
