The thing is that I never really remember liking myself as such, but I do remember that a few years ago I was happier and that I was ok being me. If something bad happened I would cheer myself up and if I was arguing with someone then they were the bad guy and I was on "my" side so to speak. But now, these days all I do is critisize myself over everything, dwell on my shortcomings and mistakes i've made and generally not like myself. I guess i'm asking two questions here...#1 How can I get back to my old self and be ok with being me again, and #2 Is it a necessity to like yourself?

I understand this ... I feel the same alot of the time.I think that as we get older we need to feel a greater sense of accomplishment before we are happy with ourselves. I.E - we need a reason to like ourselves. Try to think of things you want to do. Develop a skill, maybe? And remember to be good to yourself. Not being ignorant about yourself is a good thing, but don't criticize yourself too much. The fact that you worry about being a bad person, actually means that you're not.:)

Yes, we have to. People change unknowingly through the years. There's no turning back. But yes, we do have to like ourselves, even though we may change. Don't be so hard on/critical of yourself. My mother has a cousin in Oregon, who treats herself that way, and to hear her talk to herself, like a mother to a naughty daugher is bothers me, but some times it's funny. everyone makes a mistake, now and then, (but whose to say when a mistake has been made?) but we learn from our mistakes.

Yes we must like ourselves first and foremost in this circle of life. We might face many challenges but one must move on. Yes keeping busy helps and try new things. This woman is making some changes in her life now even if it seems scary it is for the best. Good luck

To not like yourself means to not be happy with yourself. Get back into an old hobby that you use to enjoy. And if that doesn't work exercise (whether you need it or not) it helps.

I believe that if you like yourself you begin to love others and your environment as a whole. SO do not stop liking yourself it is not a crime.

Yes, I believe it is necessary to like yourself. If you don't how can you expect anyone else to? Maybe you need to seek some professional help.
