i asked a question about formula and lots of people responded about their formula choice not making their baby spit up....

does that mean your baby doesn't sipt up AT ALL??

my 1 month old spits up a fair amount, but i never considered it something to be concerned about....i thought that's what babies do.
am i wrong??

of course i'll be discussing this with his dr, but what's up with your kids??

thanks!

mine used to spit up when i fed her too much. I didn't think i could, but she spit up essentially what wouldn't fit.

Think of eating a huge meal, then drinking it down with more milk or water... you wanna burp, but all yuck comes up cause you are full... make sense?

Also, it can be acid reflux, or the iron in formula. Can help a bit to put a little towel or blanket UNDER the mattress to lift the end up a little. Makes it so it doesn't all come back up. (I've seen for sale too a mattress wedge that actually has a belt or sling attached to it that holds baby in place at about 45 degrees.)

and yes, you are correct. Spitting up can be normal. You are little ones mommy, and you would know best. Do go see the doctor just to set your mind at ease!!

Good luck, and I hope all is well!

:o)

When my son was one month old he started spitting up quite frequently and then the spitting up turned to literally puking up all of his formula and the doctors found that he had pyloric stenoisis which means a stomach muscle was to tight and had to be cut so his food could pass through after he had that done he was able to eat without any problems, but at first I thought i was the type of formula he was consuming and though maybe he was lactose intollerant that is your first concern if they are spitting up to much of their food there stomach may not be able to handle the milk so they could be lactose intollerant so yes that would make the baby spit up, but there also may be other causes like my son's pyloric stenoisis, my second son never spit up at all but if you child is spitting up more than two ounces a day there is a problem.

I don't know why they space doctor visits so far apart because new parents always have a lot of questions. My baby is 5mo and has only been to the doctor 3 times & won't go again (Lord willing if he doesn't get sick) until the end of next month for shots.
Anyway, call your baby's doctor & ask to speak to a nurse & tell her/him how much your baby spits up & see if they think it's something to be concerned about.
My baby spits up maybe once a week if that much. We always make sure he sits up at least 30 minutes after he eats.

my baby is four months old and she is a spitter, some days more than others but she spit up after meals and in between meals. It use to be a lot worse before we found out she was lactose intolerant and switched her to lacto free milk. So now even though it has eased up she still has her days where im wiping and moping all day sometimes enough where it worries me even though they say its not a problem so ive decided when i take her in for her appointmen im going to ask the doctor again about the situation.

If it helps any always remeber that spit up is usually considered a laundry problem not a health problem....congrats on the new baby

My baby (12 weeks) spits up quite a bit. Sometimes it looks like he hold the liquid in his mouth until it's full and then lets it fly! I talked to my doctor about it, and she said that it's totally normal. As long as your baby is gaining weight and there are no signs of dehydration (sunken soft spot, and eyes) you should be OK. Also keep an eye out for vomiting, The way to tell the difference between vomiting and spit up is when the baby is vomiting, he/she will be super uncomfortable, and usually it's projectile.

Mine spit, and spit, and spit some more. I had to carry a huge diaper bag full of at least 6 burp rags and a couple changes of clothes. We tried different formula but they spit them all. With my 2nd, it was so bad we had to put cereal in her bottle to help her keep it down. They had no problem gaining weight, though, so the dr wasn't concerned. They were spittin' little butterballs!!

my 2 month old is also formula fed and spits up alot. dr said she may have reflux. i don't think that is it. i took her to a chiropractor and it seems to be helping. my pediatrician said to give her cereal in all her bottles, and i did for about 2 days, then my chiro said that the cereal was way too early for a 1 month old to digest. which makes sense. the chiro said if it is reflux, then adjustments would help. she still spits up, but not like she did at a month old. she has like 2 days of the week that seems to be alot worse than the rest of the week. babies just spit up. their bodies are changing daily. don't be too concerned!

My 10 month old daughter used to spit up all the time when she was younger.Every time after she ate no matter how many times she burped. She stopped spitting up around 5-6 months old.

My baby spit up a lot when he was around one month old because I was supplementing (he was on breast-milk and formula until he rejected the boob at 3 months) him with a formula that did not agree with him (Similac). I changed to Enfamil with Lipil and have not had that problem since. My son is now 5 months old.

my son, jason, would spit up every single time we feed him it was acid reflux. we had to put him on muscle relaxers at a few months old. but that is an extreme case. most bottle feed babies swallow more air than breastfeed babies, so they burp more which can cause them to spit up as well. if he is burping too then it probably is just the extra air he swallowed. but if he just seems to "throw up" a little within minutes after eating with no burp it could be acid reflux. Ask the doctor about that too if you remember.
