In case you haven't heard it yet: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061019/ap_on_fe_st/stingray_stabbing_7
Why would a species of bottom-dweller that's never been known to breach LEAP into a boat? This article makes it sound like stingrays are attacking people. I pity the poor creatures that get killed because of idiots slaughtering them en masse.

If you're an avid fisherman, you'd know that you can "spook" a school of fish, or rays, and they can and have been known to land in boats, and even fishing nets. Most of the time, they get chucked overboard, with no injuries. However, because of smaller watercraft, a person is usually sitting, when checking nets, and if/when the fish begins to flop around (naturally it's out of the water),, the barb is located at approximately the same height at a human's chest, therefore can penetrate the skin, even the heart. Same for scuba diving and all those who "PAY" just to get closer to aquaic life, but gosh forbid, they actually irk/spook a live creature, and they get "attacked". It's not our natural environment, it's theirs, and they aren't OUT to get us.

Lame media, and the recent death of Steve Irwin, has cause the use of scare tactics against uneduated, irrational thinking people, to convince them that they can't think for themselves. Use your critical thinking and know that it's nothing new, and certainly no reason to panic.

It appears that the stingrays are coming much to often. Maybe they are over populated and there fore should be killed to help control the population. It also seems they are pissed off since they killed a beloved TV Star and tried to kill an old man. Its possible they are are attempting to take over the world one rarely deadly poisonous sting at a time.

It is weird yes but it does happen. I have seen stingrays/mantarays jump out of the ocean and lakes. It isn't all that common no but it does happen. I think it was just another flukey sting ray moment.

I don't think anyone should attack them no. They are doing what they do. I think it was just weird that it landed in the boat but knowing what just happened to steve irwin i think i would have tried to avoid it while it was in the boat.
