As has been intimated, you need to make sure the person serving the subpoena never meets up with you.

If you are going to go into hiding, do it in the state the subpoena was issued in. Crossing state or international boundaries offers potential additional complications; you would also be advised to have a lawyer on retainer, contactable through disposable cell phones or anonymous Yahoo email accounts.

You don't want to do that, as if they find out or even suspect strongly, you can be held in contempt of court, and then you are the one on trial.

Accept the subpoena, contact the attorneys, and indicate that you may say something unfavorable to their case, they probably will not want you to go on the stand. They always subpoena many more people than they ultimately put on the stand.
