Philadendrons are easy to grow and vines all over the place. Spider plants are also easy and grow rapidly.

Pothos is a great plant not only do the leaves come in a variety of colors like yellows whites and greens it creeps and its easy to grow.Peace Lilly kinda looks like elephant ears but it gets these white pods that bloom from time to time during the year and dont forget the spiderplants they come in solid green to but a very funky plant to try all of these plants grow like weeds they thrive on neglect.Good luck!

MASTER GARDENER TO THE RESCUE

Recommended House Plants for the CHICAGO area.

plants that do well in dry indoor heat and shorter daylight hours.
My apartment in Chicago was so full of plants it was like a jungle. I couldn't fit another plant inside. So I packed up and moved to San Diego just so I could garden year 'round.

ficus benj
fatsia japonica
hosta hybrids
oxalis
coleus
ajuga
stone crop (many kinds)
cast iron plant
echeveria (many)
plantain lily
thyme
rosemary
lilly turf (many)
festuca glauca
maidenhair fern
sword fern (dwarf)
leatherleaf fern
hedera helix needlepoint
zantedeschia aethiopica
philodendron (many)
colocasia esculenta
African violet *

These are all easy care, Chicago Apartment Tested, foliage house plants. I know you said no flowers, but I had to toss in one at the end. I don't think I have ever been in a home in Chicago that didn't have a African Violet.

Elephant Ears are good . So are spider plants. I have 6 plants from one. They can get huge. They can also go outside in the spring. Philodendrons as lowly as they may seem; are good plants that clean the air well.
