That's how torrents work. You get what you need and share what you have. You are NOT being hijacked.

If you don't share what you have, you'll eventually be locked out of torrents. At least the better ones.

BTW, you have your terms backwards. When you get a file, you are downloading it. When you share one, you are making it available for upload. The download is what you are RECEIVING. The upload is what you are SENDING.

In order to use BitTorrent you must open a port in order to allow the downloader to function. If its acting funny then your proberably being port hijacked. This will allow a hacker to use your BitTorrent downloader as his own. You should be careful becuase often such hackers use computers owned by other people to host elligal pornographic material or infected files so they can get more people hacked. If you think this is a possibility you may want to attempt to uninstall your BitTorrent downloader. Most malware is designed to protect the host at all costs. If it refuses to delete then you are hacked for sure. If it lets you continue the uninstall and reinstall. See if this fixes your problem. If it doesn't then consider consulting a professional.

Edit------------------------------------------------
Its also possible you left the files you downloaded in the downloads folder in which case other people are allowed to download from you. It is peer to peer sharing so unless you tell the program not to, or remove the files from that folder there is nothing you can do. Also be aware that most BitTorrent downloaders are designed to erase the data in the share folder on deletion.

(thank you earlier poster I forgot about that :P)

Torrent requires that you use both download and upload, its called bit for bit, the more you share the faster your download of the torrent.

that's how torrents work... you are sharing the load with other people who want the same file. once you close your torrent client, the uploading will stop.
