Try "Case Histories" by Kate Atkinson and its sequel, "One Good Turn."

Along the Stephenie Meyer lines, try "A Great and Terrible Beauty" and "Rebel Angels" by Libba Bray.

Sue Miller is another of my favorites, especially "While I Was Gone."
