It seems absurd how some drugs are a perscription and some are not. We can cause harm very easy with some over the counter drugs as well as perscribed.

I just feel its like the car some things almost seem done on purpose so you most have it serviced at a shop. So do you think it is at all a monopoly for the health industry in a whole?

The FDA determines which drugs are prescription and which are over the counter. Of course most health care is a monopoly designed to make doctors and insurance companies and drugs companies WEALTHY. Wealthy beyond your wildest dreams.

wait a minute, you would rather the otc drugs that are out there now to be placed back behind the counter? hmm, that sounds alot like the sudafed restrictions they just put in place... which SUCK! the reason drugs go otc is because they do not normally cause harm if you FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS! yeah if you decide to use a kitchen spoon to give your kid cough medicine, or if you decide to take 15 tylenol 'cuz of course more is always better, then you're asking for harm. where do you see anything on how otc drugs are harmful? people also forget that ALL of the otc drugs in the aisle (not talking about herbs & supplements not regulated by FDA) were once prescription items, insuring they went through rigorous testing through trials and many years on the market before they went otc.

Most drugs are first licensed for prescription, and later licensed for OTC. The FDA is mostly conservative. They bring drugs along slowly, so as not to expose the public to undue danger. Don't forget, many people abuse OTC drugs, and take double doses, etc.
