well technically they should walk beside the woman...i dont like following people when we are walking, and especially if we are having a conversation. If this is a bf of yours i would try holding his hand to make him walk beside you, i dont see it as a good sign if he is consistantly walking away from you..

When I see the man walking in front of the woman I just want to go up to the lady and tell her to stop walking and see how long it takes for the man to notice she is not there lol!
Walking next to me would be wise, if behind me I will stop and we wont go no where. If a head of me I'll go off on my own....this in my book is rude...

Depending on how he's carrying himself it might tell me he walks faster...or it might tell me he feels she is inferior and thus unworthy of walking beside him...the latter, I would find unnacceptable...I've never considered it a protective action, as I've never been anywhere and seen it occur that I felt there were dangers present... I prefer to walk by my man's side...his partner...we wouldn't be strolling through an area so dangerous I had to walk behind him for "protection"...

I think traditionally if the man walks in front of the woman he has the 'power' in the relationship. If the woman is in front she is in charge. Ideally you want to be walking side by side in majority of relationships.

It is polite for the man to walk aside his wife, if girlfriend than girlfriend. However since my ankle fusion still not walking normal just yet, my husband sometimes gets ahead of me but then slows down for me to catch up. We currently walk hand in hand that way I am always beside him.

Most of the time, my hubby walks beside me. Occassionally, he walks in front of me because I have short legs and he gets impatient... :) I don't think it says anything about our relationship when he does it. It just means I shouldnt have stopped growing at 12
