If Barak Obama was White, he'd be the perfect candidate - for either party.

#1 He speaks eloquently (better than Bush)

#2 he can actually point out the G8 on a map and their leaders ( unlike Bush)

#3 he is relatively clean (unlike Republicans and Democrats with "histories"

#4 he is highly intelligent, etc.

The only thing that could stop him from winning the presidency in 2008 would be either the White Nationalist racist vote against him or the possibility of a better candidate running in the Republican line (which I don't see happening after 8 years of Bush's destructive stupidity).

Why can't Barak Obama have been White?

Why is it American "democracy" is about getting the next White man into the oval office - so long as he has a sexualy euphamistic name (Bush,
DlCK Cheney, COLON Powell, DlCK Nixon, etc)

When will American "democracy" be about electing an intelligent person who will do the job right?

I know what you mean about the racist vote, but I've been hoping he would run. The first time I heard him speak, I was absolutely spell bound. He's not too young to run for president. He has more insight that people three times his age and I don't even know how old he is. He is a great humanitarian. Go, BARAK

You are asking a racist question while "pretending" not to be racist. We all know that the thing that sets him apart from the other candidates IS the fact that he's black as well as being as smart or smarter than most of the others. And we all know there's a bit of racist guilt attached there, with the wish to make atonement by electing a black candidate that finally seemed smarter than we had expected such a candidate to be. And his acclaim is to some extent based on rewarding him for coming forward as some sort of proof that the rest of us have never really been racist after all.
And although I usually side with the Palestinians, you seem to one of those who are making it more and more difficult for any of us to do so. The following statement from your "question" gives you away: "When will American "democracy" be about electing an intelligent person who will do the job right?"
Since you are pretending that we would be doing the job right if we chose Mr. Obama, why are you also tacitly suggesting that since he is not white, he would NOT actually be the intelligent person we need? Your own thinly veiled prejudice has clearly been exposed.

"When will American "democracy" be about electing an intelligent person who will do the job right?"

As soon as hypocritical asses like you get off this attitude that all the problems lay with the Republicans and admit that the problem is with both parties. As long as there are people like you that will elect democrats solely because they aren't a Republican things will never get better. And yes, there are the people on the other side who will vote for someone solely because they aren't a Democrat.

Basically, people need to stop towing the political line and be a ******* person. YOU are included in that list of people.

Americans will vote for him no matter what. As far as the white supremacist, its just a fraction of the number unless religion comes in between and promulgate hatred between the races. I mean religion and the evangelist preachers have been the pioneer in telling the people who to vote for. Other than that most poeple are impressed with his pragmatic character and he'll definitely get the vote of the majority of the red states and all of the blue states esp. now that the whole bush policy are dufunct and rubbish.

It's interesting though! Many Americans are wanting a democratic candidate now, after 8 years of Bush's stupidity! I honestly don't see him winning because of his skin color! I am not racist, but I can see it happening! Truly sad society we live in! Maybe I can be wrong, but I believe someday America will see
a black president or even a female! It will be interesting to see though! I personally don't want another republican for awhile, because we are at war each and everytime we vote one in!

Amazing, isn't it?

Obama's mother is "white" and his father is "black", so that make him "black" instead of sharing two cultural backgrounds.

For "blackness", any "black" blood makes one "black" in the U.S. For American Indians, one drop of "white blood" makes one neither. Go figure.

But You are no doubt right, racism would prevent Obama winning the presidency no matter how good he is. If he were running today, I'd vote for him. Still learning about him but I know enough to see he's better than anybody else being talked about by either major party.

I see that racism is taking the form of "But he's inexperienced in Washington..." If that were not the case, I'm sure it would be "He's just another Washington insider...".

I am assuming you mean that you wish he were white so that people who would not vote for a black man would vote for him, not because YOU would not vote for a black man. I am hoping that the time has come that we, as Americans, can vote for the best man for the job, regardless of his skin color. Colin Powell and Condi Rice have shown us that color should not matter. I am all for him, his comment about no one being sure he is ready for the job until he has it is right on!

Say Obama on no account ran for President and became no longer nicely hassle-loose. in case you have been strolling down the line and observed him you does no longer see a bi-racial guy. on your recommendations you may say he became a black guy. it quite is in simple terms the way it is in this u . s . immediately. And, Barack Hussein Obama is his 'criminal' call. it quite is the call his mom and dad named him at beginning, it quite is the call that looks on his beginning certificates. Barry became a 'nickname' his grandparents referred to as him, one that he did use till his college years while he went returned to his 'criminal' call. Soetoro became the call of his step-father, and particular he became registered in Indonesia decrease than the call of Barry Soetoro, yet that still became no longer his criminal call.
