I find that King is too wordy. Poe was always more concise in my opinion. Poe's imagination was very dark and brooding.I sometimes feel he was on the edge of insanity, My favorite story is the "Telltale Heart", but his other stories are a close second
King has a tremendous imagination slipping into the supernatural, His stuff can be genuinely frightening while Poe brought us with him to the edge of insanity, My favorite story by King is the Shawshank redemption, It was so replete with character buildup and compelling story, that it may be my all-time favorite movie-even though it does not fit in with the horror genre.
I kind of wish that they would make a new movie of the telltale heart with Johny Depp - and Sean Connery as the policeman. It would be riveting. Don't you think so?

Similarities...one only has to read the books to notice....The Black Cat by Edgar Allan Poe is a dead ringer for "Pet Semetary" by Stephen King. They both wrote about death and people coming back from the dead....both suspence...

Major difference is Poe is a lot more wordy. Flowery language which was appropriate in his time. It would be hard to get that style published today.

the major themes and concepts of the two authors are basically the same. However the structure and language is different because there are two different time periods.
