The guy at the dealership said there are some clips holding the glass insert in that I need to release but the area around the glass is only like 1/4 inch wide and I can't see squat in there. How do I get in there? He said if I just start prying it out I'll break the whole mirror housing but I really don't want to pay them to do it if it's something simple.

if you tilt the mirror all the way to one direction you can get a scribe or a pic in there to pop the clips off one at a time untill you get two or three off then it will come off pretty easily.

I have never tried replacing one, but I assume you will have to remove and disassemble the whole mirror assembly. To remove, you "pop" off the plastic cover (with a screwdriver from foreward part of the cover area). there is a setscrew that holds the "cable assembly" in place, and several mounting nuts you must remove to get the mirror off the door, -= perhaps from there, you can figure out how to get the mirror and cables to move far enough out of the housing to release your "clips"!

There is no explination of this operation (replacing glass) in my manual!

I'm actually looking at the procedures in Alldata and it appears a little confusing, but I hope it helps.

It says:
Push the glass holder fully inboard. Then place fingers under the outboard portion of the glass/holder and pull outboard and rearward until this portion of the glass/holder is disengaged. Then push inboard until fully disengaged. Remove glass/holder from the mirror assembly.

1. Carefully pull/pry the broken glass holder from the mirror assembly.
2. Disconnect the heated mirror electrical connectors from the terminals on the mirror glass holder, if equipped.
