For the most part, granite is older. Marble is metamorphic stone that was once limestone. There are certainly deposits of marble that are older than some deposits of granite, but limestone is mostly calcium carbonate and requires skeletal remains (coral, plankton, shells, bones, etc) to form. Granite is crystallized magma.. feldspar, quartz... silica, basically. That's some of the molten stuff at the center of the earth..

Granite forms as liquid rock solidifies under pressure. Marble forms by absorption of other minerals into limestone while under heat and pressure.

Marble is formed from limestone by heat and pressure in the earth's crust. These forces cause the limestone to change in texture and makeup. This process is called recrystallization. Fossilized materials in the limestone, along with its original carbonate minerals, recrystallise and form large, coarse grains of calcite. Impurities present in the limestone during recrystallization affect the mineral composition of the marble that forms

Granite is an igneous rock and marble is a metamorphic rock. Igneous rocks come from volcanic activity( liquid molten lava) and metamorphic rocks are formed under tremendous heat and pressure over many years.

well if you mean by earliest, like granite or igneous rock, it is formed inside the earth, heat and pressure. marble is metamorphosed rock, so is that what you are looking for?
