A natural boundary is a physical border (like a river or mountain range) that separates two places. The places they separate could be the homes of different ethnic groups (like the Pyrenees Mountains separate Spain and France) or they could be geographic regions (like the fall line separates the coastal lowlands from the Piedmont in the American South).

Political boundaries separate countries or states. They can be the same as natural boundaries (like the Pyrenees) or they can be created by surveying the land (like the straight line border between Colorado and Wyoming).

a political boundary is just an arbitrary line. A good example is the straight US/Canadian border along the 49th parallel in the west; there was nothing particularly "American" or "Canadian" about either side at the time; rivers flow from one into the other, and native peoples crossed freely.

a natural boundary would be the US/Canadian border along the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River; from western Lake Superior almost all the way to Montreal there is a continuous boundary along wide bodies of water: rivers, lakes and rapids.

A natural boundary is made by nature (rivers, mountains). Political boundaries are decided by man (politicians)
