If Tony LaRussa isn't questioning it AND Albert Pujols is quoted as saying he would expect that Kenny Rogers would be more wily at hiding an illegal substance if he were going to cheat and Pujols doesn't think it's illegal substance, why is it everyone sitting at home, and NOT ON THE FIELD OF PLAY think otherwise.. those that were there, Dave Duncan aside, most of the Cardinals players, The Cards manager, the umpires, the chief of umpires etc, don't think anything wrong was done.. and didn't formally question it..
You want to question the itegrity of the game, there are alot bigger fish to fry.. from Barry Bonds, to blown calls, to a team that struggled to finish above 500 playing in the World Series..
If Rogers cheated, I would hope at his age, he'd be alot better at hiding it from the world.. and what is the difference between resin and pine tar for a pitcher anyway.. nothing.. both give you sticky fingers and a better grip on the ball.. only difference is one tacking agent is legal and the other is illegal, but they both do the same thing, give a better grip.. For that matter, so does blowing on your hands when it's cold..
So why punish someone who is not guilty of anything, not convicted of anything.. What's the greater travesity.. cheating and not getting caught (and is that cheating if you don;t get caught) or being punished for a presumptious assertion when you have not been proven to have done anything wrong.. Aside from what the players Union would do the MLB, it would never hold up in a court of law, only the court of public opinion...

I think La Russo, Leland and Rogers should be suspended along with the empires for the rest of the season. When a announcer picks up on whats going on, and mention on TV that the pitcher did not take off his glove in the dugout. McCarver has been around long enough to spot something like that. Why would the empire tell the pitcher to wash dirt off his hand. The cards picture used the the same dirt and rosin and did not have dark spots on pants and was not told to go wash his hands. I think Rogers pitched with the same gimmick the time he was in the game. Pulos would not say anything about any player. It is not his nature and means nothing.

I don't think you can make an example out of Kenny Rogers, especially since there was no formal accusation or investigation during the game. You can't punish him when there are over 60% of pitchers that use it. It's like driving over the speed limit. Everybody does it and nobody cares unless it gets out of hand. When it came up, he washed it off and then pitched 7 shutout innings to prove himself. At this point, there is nothing you can do unless he provides a confession.

Hell no there shouldnt be a punishment. they have no hard evidence they dont have the tar on the balls his hat or his glove. all they have is the stain on his hand which he washed off and continued to pitch a great game. had Larussa asked teh umpire to go and look at his hand to see if there was a forgien substance and they had found the tar then yes there should be a punishment. you cant go around punishing players for cheating without concrete evidence just because Larussa blew his chance to change the series.

You can't punish Rogers because you have a moral issue with it. The players involved didn't seem to have a problem with it. Integrity of the game??? Are you kidding, baseball has little integrity left after all the steroid scandalls. Nobody wants to see Bonds break the all time home run record because of roids. Baseball viewership on tv is declining, why, because here is no integrity left. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah Kenny Rogers has been a doctor for a long time. I remember him walking in the series losing run in the NLCS, Mets-Braves in '99. His technique was not as refined then, as the WD-40 axle grease concoction failed him. The BUM! Too late to punish him for this offense, though. May he be hit, and hit hard, to lose the Series. Thats fitting enough. True justice: may he walk in the losing run.

The only punishment is having to read these questions over and over again.

first of all it did have a huge effect on the game, if you look at his hat and glove later in the game you can still see pine tar so he cheated the entire game, he should be stuck with a huge fine and suspended from the rest of the post season plus a ten game suspension next season, unfortunately this will not happen because paul taglibu and the mlb avoid all problems and hope they go away, they never do anything about anything, thats why kenny rogers does this all the time and has been caught in every post season and still does it
