If you were, how old were you before you got over it. Just curious because my daughter is and I can only turn the light out when she falls asleep. Night lights dont help.

Yes I used to be. I got over at 9 yrs old. Some people never get over it. I'd keep doing what you're doing, give her all the time she needs to get over it. I'm going thru the same thing with my children. It will work itself out.

I at times am still afraid of the dark. It is something that must be overcome, but it takes time. I am not afraid of the dark all the time but if while falling asleep I hear a voice or noise I am startled and fear creeps in. It doesnt happen a lot but I admit that it does happen. Tell your daughter there is nothing in the dark that isn't in the light. Then get her one of those guardian angel pictures, the one where she is watching over the children on the rickety bridge. It really works, you only have to convince her that her guardian angel won't let anything happen to her. I hope that I was some help.

Sorry, no...I actually liked the dark...I never had a fear about monsters either...

But my brother was and I shared a room with him.

He usually was ok, as long as he had company, i.e. someone else was in the room and also as long as there was some source of light (even if it was small...)

Hmmm, when I was little I liked stuff that was very pretty...I've seen some lights that are not particularly bright (not really classifiable as nightlights) not bright enough to be disturbing and it turns or something, projecting colourful silhouettes of light of like animals and flowers onto the surrounding walls...It could help to distract her from the darkness...

Well, good luck either way, I hope this has been of some use to you...try reading her a happy bedtime story before bedtime.

yes I've always been afraid of the dark even now I still am, usually if I'm home alone at night, I turn the lights on in every room when I go downstairs just to get a drink or something, then shut lights off and run up the stairs. or I'd just drag my husband downstairs with me, and me and my husband sleep with the lights off, because he can't sleep with lights on, so the only monster would attack me in the middle of the night would be my hubby, but attacking me in a friendly way hehe.

oh and I'm 22, lol should been over it by now, but still scared of the dark when my hubby isn't around.

I was only after my older sister thought it would be funny to scare the pee out of me....

I have two kids that still do not like the dark (doesn't help we are night time people). Have you tried a night light? This has helped my little guy. The two listen to there radios at night as well.

Your daughter may or may not grow out of it, this is just one of the things that make her unique....

Yep, I was. And still am - even though I am 28! Sick, isn't it? However, as a kid I slept in the same room with my sister, and I am ok not to have any lights on if somebody sleeps in the same room. I know it is not much of a problem solver, but it might help if you had another daughter to sleep in the same room. Or try sleeping with her for a while in the dark - maybe she will agree to nightlights.

I was afraid of the dark and I think that is was general anxiety transferred to being afraid of the dark. Is she anxious about other things that you could help her process or talk about? Good Luck. It sounds like you are a good mother to your daughter.

Yes, I was deathly afraid of the dark. I was 18 before I got over it, if I am even over it, still don't want to be in pitch dark. Boot camp helped, hee hee. My mom gave me a lamp with a red bulb in it.

I have just turned 26 and I am still afraid of the dark!! It's awful. I try to teach my daughter not to be afraid and here I am scared. I know that it is stupid and illogical, but alas...it is still scary.

My only advice is to buy her a nightlight. It helps my little one...just not me! LOL!
