when there's a fire and smoke is present, why is it nessassary to stay low? is it because something's density is less than air's so it rises up? it should be carbon dioxide, but co2 is more dense than air. so why?

It is not co2, that you need to worry about. It's carbon monoxide and all the other toxic gases like cyanide gas that are produce in a fire.

When you crawl low to the ground you are in the best possible air to breathe and the heat at first rising to the ceiling so it's cooler down low.

More people die from the toxic gases in a fire than the fire itself.

Also always crawl along a wall, because you can find window or door and keep your bearing as to wear you are. Firefighters will find you more quickly as well, because we follow the walls to do search and rescue.

Heat rises so you want to stay as low as you can . Temperatures in a burning building can be as high as 1000 degrees at the ceiling so the lower you go the better. There are also toxins from combustion in the air above, like carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, oxides of nitrogen, chlorine, and cyanide. The lower the better and get your butt out of there. Also visability is nil when you stand up. You will have some visability at floor level

The smoke rises, so staying near the floor allows you to breath in clearer air and perhaps see better.

Smoke is hot, as it is hot it is less dense than the cooler air and you obviously know the rest. You stay down so you can breath cooler air, not burn your lungs or choke on smoke

Smoke tends to rise to the sky instead of sinking to the ground. Smoke inhalation is the primary cause of death in an indoor fire. Do the math.

Hot air rises and so is hot air. Therefore the better oxygen is on the floor level.
