becuase apples are part of a plant and are made up of plant cells and all plant cells contain something called a vacuole which is used to store fluids, in apple peels the vacuole contains red or green pigment making the apple red or green

if you ask "why is anything red or green?", i could tell you all the other colors of light that arent green or red are absorbed, and only the red or green light is reflected. If you mean what makes the skin of the apple this way, uhh...

or Yellow or Brown, I really like Jonathan Golds and those St, Laurents apples which are pink inside.

it's simple, it's because apples only like those colors.
would you want it to be "orange". then what the devil would you call an orange? tomato's are also red and green, gree/?

depends on the kind of apple ... granny smiths are green .... Mackintosh is red ect .... there is even a yellow one :-)
