I can't understand Bring 'em on!'s answer that "Americans understand that they have to give up some of their liberties for freedom."

EXCUSE ME?! "Give up liberty for freedom?" That is the most ridiculous thing I have heard since Orwell's "1984" where they chanted, "War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery. Ignorance is Strength."

Among other things, these new laws take away our rights to privacy, to habeas corpus, fair and speedy trial, discovery of evidence against us before our trial, right to trial by our peers, and right to appeal.

The new military Commissions Act gives Bush (or whoever we elect next time) the right to hold anyone accused of being "any alien enemy combatant" without bail -- without the opportunity to hire a civilian attorney. It allows hearsay evidence and evidence obtained without a search warrant. It allows the torture of "alien enemy combatants" to obtain a confession. It forbids appeal to a civilian court.

OK. So you say you are a US citizen -- not an "alien enemy combatant" but would you confess to being one under torture? Most people confess to anything to stop the torture. Even without that problem, there is the problem of Americans traveling overseas. What if other governments enact similar laws against "aliens"? That would include Americans. Now we would (should) be afraid to travel to other countries. And citizens of other countries will be afraid to come to the US.

The "freedom" the MCA gives is freedom to Bush. Did you know this act pardons Bush for any war crimes? It is retroactive. It pardons him for all past crimes as well as future war crimes. At the same time, if I read it correctly, the MCA gives the President the sole power to approve or disapprove of all death sentences under the act. The framers of our Constitution must be turning over in their graves!

I wouldn't usually answer a question that already had so many answers, but I could not let Bring 'em on!'s answer remain unchallenged.

They concern us as a results of fact they understand they're on the NWO schedule for eventual removal. by way of inflicting chaos here it buys them time. The underlying difficulty is an prolonged time previous, it develop into started on the top of WW 2. we could desire to continually have listened to Patton and MacArthur and eradicated them, don't have formed the state of Israel, and eradicated the Russians on a similar time as we had the only massive stick in existence. i think of we could desire to continually have additionally placed the Berlin wall on the French border. Oh, by the way what was the freedom you lost? Please be specific. Thanks

PS. Didn't the House pass both bills by a big margin? Weren't both bills voted on by democrats and Repulicans? All Bush did was sign the bills making them law.
