Hi All~
I'm writing because I need to ask a question regarding birth control pills. I'm 21 years old, have been married for two years, and am currently taking Alesse. I was supposed to start my pack last Sunday but due to work I didn't make it to the pharmacy and I took my missed pill on Monday with my regular dose. Then in a moment of true "brilliance" I took a placebo and not an active pill. I thought I was paying better attention but it was dark and I thought that I took the right one. The next night when I went to take my regular dose I realized that I'd screwed up and took the missed dose. My husband and I made love the night that I missed the dose and (not to get too personal) we made love again last night both knowing that it's a possibility for me to get pregnant. My question is what are the odds of me getting pregnant having missed the pills and having unprotected sex? If I did get pregnant would the baby have birth defects from the birth control?

Considering that it was right at the beginning of the pack, it is unlikely that you were ovulating - so don't worry too much. BUT DO BE CAREFUL AND CONSISTENT!! I did conceive my son 16 years ago by not taking the pills regularly. So make it a part of your daily routine. Set the alarm on your cell phone to buzz at the same time every day as a reminder.

Okay, I can't tell you the odds but, typical use (missing pills) of the pill is something between 8 and 20% chance of you getting pregnant. If you don't want to be pregnant, continue to take your pills. The pill is not harmful to early pregnancy and will not cause birth defects. It may be harmful to later pregnancy though so if you test for pregnancy and test positive stop taking the pill. If you don't get your period next month, continue to take the pill until you get a positive pregnancy test unless you want to compromise your protection and get pregnant.

Your pill pamplet should have this information as well as what to do incase you miss a pill.

In the future, if you are not wanting to be pregnant, you should look into setting a cell phone or watch alarm to remind you to take the pill or looking at your other contraceptive options such as the nuva ring, the patch or the shot that do not require you to remember a pill at the same time everyday.

Whether pregnant or not, is not important since you already married, no worries. I'll don't understand why you need to have the "pills" instead of condoms. Because as a man and also I'll love my wife dearly, taking the "pills" there is likely many side effects coming but you never know what is it ? Discuss this with your husband about using condom instead of yourself taking the "pills". Take care !

The chances are not that great believe it or not. My gynocologist said that if you want to conceive give it a couple of months after being off the pill. So I would assume that your chances are not that great, but there are the exceptions to that. I have a friend who missed one pill and bam she has a baby. All I can say is if you miss your period immediately test and then go from there.

My scientific expert instructed me that, and now that i think of approximately it....it makes acceptable experience!

No, the baby would not have birthdefects. The birthcontrol pills prevent your ovaries from ovulating. There is a slim chance that you will become pregnant.
