Here's a good book to read, "'Take your Time" by Ecknath Easwaran - it teaches principles of slowing yourself down, taking one thing at a time, and learning to focus your attention. It also helps in practicing meditation and in finding a mantra.
My favorite life metaphor is "If it's meant to be, let it go free and it will always come back."

Life is lie a dirty beach (an actual beach with sand), sometimes you just have to take timew to clean it all up so you can see and breath clearer.
