I believe that society itself sets the standards for adulthood. This meaning that in some circumstances adulthood is achieved earlier in life than others. Back in the day, children were put to work many years earlier than now, taking on "adult" roles. I guess my view is that certain responsibilities validate adulthood. As far as acting your age, it all depends on how you develop mentally regarding maturity. 25 year olds still living with momma may act more like a 16 year old living with momma as oppose a 19 year old married and has kids acting more mature.
